In order to simplify and clarify pathfinding for in-patients, ambulatory patients and visitors, a two-story lobby was carved out of the building to integrate arrivals from the street, as well as from an over-street bridge. The upper balcony of the lobby is configured as a "grand concourse", with circulation linking to two major corridors that had not been previously linked. Functional space near the new lobby now accommodates integrated patient reception, processing and registration functions.
