VITETTA completed a Facilities Master Plan and Assessment to determine the immediate and long term needs for the next 25 years. Work also involved one suite of new galleries for 16th c. and 17th c. paintings and one complete wing for 19th c paintings and sculpture. The new galleries are compatible with the existing interior architecture, yet reflect the historic period. A study on the usefulness of existing and potential storage areas was completed. Also, a 22 ft. diameter opening was cut into the north foyer floor to illuminate the Constitution Avenue entrance of the Gallery and to provide a view up to the main floor rotunda.
