VITETTA provided design, documentation and construction administration services for the replacement and renovation of the Kennedy Health System Stratford New Jersey facility exterior facade. The project scope replaces the entire facade from the occupied 200 bed four (4) story patient tower portion of the hospital. This replacement also allows the opportunity to upgrade the forty (40) year old towers fresh air distribution and delivery system including replacement of all of the outdated fan coil units. In addition essential upgrades to specific headwall locations are being performed for electrical and gas services.
The replacement will be accomplished by removal of the existing facade in a four (4) phased approach, installing pre-cast panels of brick, concrete and glazing at all four (4) floors in each quadrant of the building. The significance to this project is the need to perform these extremely invasive operations while keeping the hospital fully operational. To this end a vacant portion of the hospital was renovated to be used as “swing space” allowing for entire departments / services to relocate for periods of 6 to 9 months at a time. VITETTA worked very closely with the entire hospital staff to create the logistics plans that allowed the project to proceed.
The finished project will provide an entirely new, updated facade to the entire exterior while dealing with primary issues of air distribution and glazing efficiency. In addition to the facade replacement the project includes the creation of a drop off canopy, addition of new makeup air rooftop air handlers, limited re-roofing, rehabilitation and staining of remaining facade elements, exterior way-finding signage and renovation of the impacted portions of the exterior tower patient rooms.
