Pennsylvania Capitol

VITETTA has been working continuously for the Capitol Preservation Committee on the restoration of Pennsylvania’s Capitol building, since 1987. Conceived by Joseph Huston, the building’s architect, as a palace of art where architecture, decorative art and fine art would be executed in harmony and contribute to the building’s splendor, our work has been centered on restoring his vision which had become significantly degraded by the early 1980s. Our projects have restored the building’s spaces and finishes to their period of significance and modernized building systems. We have written two master plans and completed numerous studies on far-ranging subjects from the rehabilitation of windows to repairing and restoring the roof and dome to the conservation of the Mexican War Memorial. Our projects include the restoration of the rotunda, Senate Chamber, House Chamber ceiling, Senate Majority Caucus Room, Mercer tile floor, North and South Light Courts, Member’s Offices and many others. We have also completed projects in the building for the House, Senate and Department of General Services.
