Glen Echo Park

Our master plan for Glen Echo Park, a roaring twenties era trolley-stop amusement park outside Washington DC, was completed for the National Park Service and Montgomery County, MD. Acquired in the 1970s, the new vision for the property was to transform it into a community arts center. Our work included planning the rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of the site’s 37 structures and site utilities. Today, programs for all ages are run by cooperators and include dance and arts, theater and summer camp. We completed designs for the rehabilitation of the Spanish Ballroom and the reconstruction of the North Arcade Building. The Spanish Ballroom is a local landmark providing a nightly dance program for the public; the North Arcade Building is a multi-use building with classrooms, a shop, offices and the only specially-built puppet theater in the country.
