This 624-bed maximum-security facility for juvenile offenders is a hybrid facility that serves young adult offenders who have committed adult crimes and have been sentenced as adults. The design of this facility utilizes portions of facility components that were developed as part of the Pennsylvania prototypical prison design, with modifications made to serve the special needs of a youthful inmate population, especially in the housing and program/education areas. Ten major buildings are distributed campus-style on a 78-acre site, which includes two open ball fields within the secure perimeter.
Four Custody Level Three housing buildings, each having two 36-cell pods, are managed by direct supervision. A fifth housing building contains cell-type housing and all activity space, including two walled and caged exercise courts, to serve the Custody Levels 4 and 5 inmates.
The facility utilizes a “taut-wire” perimeter detection system with integrated mobile map displays for patrol vehicles. In 2008, VITETTA was tasked with upgrading the video surveillance system to digital video storage which required renovation of the twenty-four hour Central Control Center. Due to facility expansion, it was deemed necessary to remote locate existing video command/control/media storage while maintaining a fully operational control center. VITETTA provided all design engineering and completed the project ahead of schedule and under budget.
