Blue Ridge Regional Jail, Lynchburg Adult Detention Center

This regional approach to combining jail system facilities and resources proved to be an economical solution to resolving jail overcrowding for the counties of Bedford, Campbell and Halifax as well as the cities of Bedford and Lynchburg, Virginia. All of the facility renovations and additions included some type of dormitory space, totaling over 300 dormitory beds. The overall design and creation of additional capacity allow the counties to distribute housing capacity and classification over the various component facilities of the system offering further flexibility in meeting the needs of the region.

The security management and control for the facility consists of a programmable logic controller (PLC) based system that fully integrates access and door controls, intercommunications, situation alarms and closed circuit surveillance video into an operator friendly touchscreen graphic display.
