Ocean Medical Center

The Shore Rehab Institute, part of the Meridian Health System, required relocation from their previous location. The new structure was planned as an independant addition to the Ocean Medical Center. Developed as a 40-bed inpatient facility with combined in- and out-patient physical rehab facilities, the new structure was planned with emphasis on light, accessibility and family support for patients as well as on staff efficiencies and effectiveness. OMC decided mid-way through the project to add two stories of additional beds: one 24-bed ICU unit and one 40-bed Med/Surg unit. These inpatient bed units were designed around the concept of a universal room, incorporating the nurse server concept.
